You can say what you want but good food can definitely change a sad, depressed man into one full of energy and optimism. It is a miracle-working stuff, especially when, after having been sightseeing all day long, you suddenly feel very weak and often … angry. It’s a visible sign that you should quickly find a nice place to eat. Ours in Eger was Palacsintavar in Dobo Street. Pancake restaurant in Eger Palacsinta means “pancake” (and by the way, Istvan Dobo was a national Hungarian hero:-) Palacsintavar (a pancake castle) is an awesome restaurant which offers huge, delicious pancakes of many kinds.

Sunset in Poland. Or somewhere else. That isn’t a place in fact. It can be anywhere. It’s rather a state of mind than a physical place. The day is ending. Doesn’t matter if it’s in the country or in the city. Photographs limit substantially the variety of colours, the dynamic range of the scene but, I hope, can be an invitation to experience such a stunning view.

If you happen to be in Poland, it is quite a good idea to visit the castle in Łańcut. You can see it inside with a special guide and it’s rather nice with all its suite of rooms, the Japanese-style suite, the small concert hall or the grand ballroom. The castle was built in the 17th century in the "palazzo in fortezza" style, and two centuries later it was changed into a palace-park complex.

Take the first step out of the vaporetto and there they are. The colourful fairy-tale houses of Burano. Burano - first sight, Venice, Italy It’s easy to reach the island of Burano by vaporetto. The trip lasts less than an hour (you can stop at Murano to buy some glass jewellery) and the island is quite small so you can visit Murano, Burano and Torcello in one day.

Before I actually saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa, I had imagined it to be standing all alone. (Never mind the pictures I must have seen before, with all the buildings surrounding. Our memory and imagination are more powerful than the bare facts;-)) When you approach the area with the Tower, you encounter a wall surrounding what is called Piazza dei Miracoli. And it is by no mistake that Piazza dei Miracoli bears this very name.

Before we go anywhere we like to read about the place we are going to visit. Not only to know more or to boast about our knowledge when we come back. The most important reason is not to miss something worth seeing just because of our ignorance. Thus we were pleasantly surprised to find out that in Eger, which was our destination, there is a real minaret. It was a real treat.

When preparing for the trip from Venice to Torcello take into account the time needed for the trip itself (about 1 hour from Fondamente Nuove to Torcello, changing the vaporetto on Burano), the opening hours of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta with the bell tower, the Santa Fosca Church and the archaeological museum. A vaporetto gives you an opportunity to reach Torcello while experiencing breathtaking views of the lagoon of Venice and some aspects of the life of the local inhabitants.
